白白庵の前身である「neutron」での個展・二人展・ライブイベントなど、数多くの発表を重ねてきた足田メロウによる、白白庵では2回目となる個展を開催します。
僕とメロウさんは1973年生まれの同い年です。
だからと言うわけではないですが、長い間会わなくても(会えなくても)、気持ちを通じ合わせることができると感じます。
コロナ禍において、誰もが強制的に距離を取らなくてはならなくなった世の中で、ライブイベントなど「対面」での表現活動を精力的に行ってきた彼にとって、大きな影響があったことは否めません。
僕自身、メロウさんのライブで何度も心を動かされ、時に涙してきました。
寂しさと切なさと喜びと儚さと希望が次々に降ってくるような感覚を味わう体験は、実際に会場で目撃した人にしかわからないものかもしれません。
しかし時代は離れている人間同士を、心の底から切り離そうとしているのでしょうか?
僕はそうは思いません。

不自由さは創造の源でもあります。魂の渇望はさらなる制作を促します。
今回、メロウさんは99枚の連作をはじめ、驚くほど多くの作品を準備してくれました。
どの絵やオブジェにも、静かな祈りと心の叫びが込められているように感じます。
いつかメロウさんの背中越しに、彼の魔法の手が動き、めくるめく幻想のような世界が生まれる光景を再び見たい。
その気持ちを強く抱きつつ、この時代だからこそ出来るやり方で、世界中の多くの人たちに作品を見て欲しいと願っています。
「幸せをのせる、青い盆 あなたは 何を のせますか?」

僕は毎日欠かさず昇る朝の光を、のせたい。

ASHIDA Mellow has presented numerous solo and two-person exhibitions and live events at "neutron," the predecessor of PAKUPAKUAN.
This will be his second solo exhibition at PAKUPAKUAN.
Mellow and I are the same age, born in 1973.
Not necessarily because of that, but I feel that even if we don't (or can't) see each other for a long time, we can still feel each other.
Under the COVID-19, in a world where everyone is forced to keep their distance,
there is no denying that it had a huge impact on him since he has energetically expressed himself "face-to-face" at live events.
I myself have been moved many times by Mr. Mellow's live performances, sometimes in tears.
Only those who have actually witnessed it in person can tell the experience of feeling loneliness, sadness, joy, fragility, and hope falling one after another.
But are the present times trying to separate people, who are far away from each other, from the bottom of their hearts?
I don't think so.

Inaccessibility is also a source of creativity. The thirst of the soul encourages further creation.
For this exhibition, Mr. Mellow has prepared a surprisingly large number of works, including a series of 99 paintings.
I feel that every painting and object contains a silent prayer and a cry from the heart.
Someday I hope to see again the sight of his magical hands moving over Mr. Mellow's back and creating a dazzling, fantasy-like world.
With this strong feeling in my heart, I hope that many people around the world will be able to see his works in a way that is possible only in this day and age.
"Blue tray to put happiness on. What will you put on it?"

I want to put the morning light that rises every day without fail.

評される作品たちと共に展覧会やライブペインティングで全国各地を巡っています。
出会うために描き、描くために出会う日々。

Born in 1973.
Lives in Shigaraki City, Shiga Prefecture
He paints and makes potteries in the mountains of Shiga Prefecture.
He travels around the country to hold exhibitions and do live paintings along
with his works, that have been described as
"cute but dark," "fairytale-like," "strange," "airy," "pop," and many others.
He spends his days painting to meet and meeting to paint.

「青い盆」のこと

こつこつと縦長の９９枚の絵を描きながら、何に対してかはわかりませんが、
祈りのような、供物を捧げているような、自分にとってのお百度参りのようなような行為だなと思いながら制作を続けていました。

「盆」には”御供物をのせる器”という意味もあるようで、青い下地画面を盆に見立て、その上に白や金（の絵具）でお供えを並べてゆくようなイメージで描いていたのと、以前から今回の個展は「青」で統一しようと考えていたので、タイトルを『青い盆』としました。

絵も陶器も、なにげなく前を通りかかった時に心の中で挨拶をしたりふと手を合わせたり、そんなお地蔵さまのような存在の作品が作り出せればいいなと思っていますので、地蔵盆ともちょっと引っ掛けてます。

About "Blue tray"

As I painstakingly worked on the 99 vertical paintings, I was not sure what I was doing for,
but I kept thinking of it as an act of prayer or an offering as if I were visiting a temple a hundred times.

The word "tray" also means "a vessel to put offerings on," and I had been painting with the image of a blue base canvas as a tray,
on which I would arrange offerings in white or gold (paints).
I titled the exhibition "Blue tray" since I had been thinking of unifying "blue" in this solo exhibition.

I hope that my paintings and ceramics will be like Jizo (stone statue as a guardian deity of the earth), whom people greet in their hearts and put their hands together when they casually pass by.
That's why the title, "Blue Tray" also comes from Jizo-Bon (Jizo Festival: Bon in Japanese means tray or festival).
